Product Introduction

G14 / G16 / G18 Steel Grit is a coarse-to-medium steel grit series designed for industrial blasting, descaling and surface preparation before coating. Positioned between very coarse grit such as G10 / G12 and medium grit such as G25, this product group offers strong cleaning performance with better control over surface roughness and abrasive consumption. G14 steel grit provides the strongest cutting performance in this group and is suitable for steel structures, shipyard surface preparation, thick steel plates and large castings that require deeper surface profiling. G16 steel grit offers a balanced option for heavy-duty blasting of welded components, forgings, castings, machinery parts and steel fabrication workpieces. G18 steel grit provides more controlled surface profiling while maintaining good cleaning efficiency, making it suitable for general descaling, rust removal and coating preparation on steel plates, medium-to-heavy parts and industrial components. By selecting the proper grit size, customers can achieve a better balance between cleaning speed, anchor profile, coating adhesion and total blasting cost.

Manufacturing Process

Steel grit is produced by melting high-quality steel, atomizing it into steel shot, crushing the shot into angular particles, and then screening and heat-treating the material according to required hardness and size.

During production, the steel grit is classified by sieve analysis and inspected for chemical composition, hardness, density and particle size distribution. This helps ensure stable cutting performance and consistent surface roughness during blasting.

Advantages

Strong Cleaning with Controlled Surface Profile

G14 / G16 / G18 Steel Grit provides strong cutting performance while allowing better control of surface roughness than very coarse grit sizes. It is suitable for applications that require effective cleaning without creating an excessively deep anchor profile.

Balanced Choice for Industrial Blasting

This grit group is positioned between coarse heavy-duty grit and medium general-purpose grit, making it a practical choice for steel fabrication, foundries, shipbuilding, machinery manufacturing and industrial surface treatment.

Suitable for Coating Preparation

With its angular shape, G14 / G16 / G18 Steel Grit can create a suitable anchor pattern on steel surfaces, helping improve mechanical adhesion before painting, anti-corrosion coating or protective coating.

Flexible Size Selection

Different grit sizes can be selected according to the required cleaning strength and surface profile. G14 provides stronger cutting action, G16 offers balanced heavy-duty blasting performance, and G18 delivers more controlled surface preparation.

Applications

G14 / G16 / G18 Steel Grit is suitable for industrial blasting, descaling, rust removal and surface preparation before painting or protective coating. This grit group is widely used when customers need stronger cutting performance than medium grit, but also require better control over surface roughness than very coarse grit sizes.

It is commonly used in steel fabrication, foundries, shipbuilding, bridge construction, machinery manufacturing, tank production and general metal surface treatment. Typical applications include steel structure cleaning, thick steel plate treatment, casting and forging cleaning, welded component blasting, mill scale removal and coating preparation.

G14 steel grit is recommended for stronger cleaning applications such as shipyard surface preparation, large steel structures, thick plates and large castings. G16 steel grit is suitable for heavy-duty but more balanced blasting of welded parts, forgings, castings and machinery components. G18 steel grit is a practical choice for general descaling, rust removal and surface preparation where stable cleaning efficiency and controlled surface profile are both required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is G14 steel grit used for?

G14 steel grit is a coarse angular abrasive used for heavy-duty surface cleaning and surface preparation. It provides strong cutting action and is suitable for removing rust, mill scale, oxide scale, old coatings and surface contaminants.

G14 steel grit is commonly used for steel structures, shipbuilding, thick steel plates, large castings, machinery parts and metal surfaces that require strong cleaning performance before painting or protective coating.

What is the difference between G12 and G14 steel grit?

G12 steel grit has a larger particle size and provides stronger impact force and a deeper surface profile. It is suitable for very heavy rust, thick scale and severe surface contamination.

G14 steel grit is slightly finer than G12. It still provides strong cleaning power, but creates a more controlled surface profile. It is suitable for heavy-duty blasting where strong cleaning is required, but the surface profile should not be too deep.

In general, choose G12 for maximum cutting power and deeper roughness. Choose G14 for strong cleaning with better surface profile control.
